Pain Science Workshop (online)
Early bird: 570 US$ (until 31 July)
Installment option available.
With roughly one in five adults living with chronic pain, and pain the single most common reason people seek out Rolfing® Structural Integration, an up-to-date understanding of pain matters for every working practitioner.
Over the past few decades, pain science has overturned the old idea that pain is a readout of tissue damage. We now understand pain as a protective response produced by the nervous system and shaped by biological, psychological, and social factors. This eight-week online course brings that research into conversation with Rolfing® Structural Integration. In simple, everyday language, it offers a practical framework for thinking about pain and a clearer view of how Rolfing fits within it.
We look at the mechanisms behind pain, how acute pain becomes chronic, and what keeps it going, along with the evidence on what helps people recover. We also examine the leading hypotheses for how Rolfing® Structural Integration helps with pain, including changes to fascia. However, beyond its effects on tissues such as fascia and muscle, the work likely engages the wider system that produces pain. That understanding helps you assess and treat clients in pain, and discuss your work with clients, physicians, and colleagues in language that holds up.
The course combines live classes with a range of multimedia learning materials. Live sessions offer discussion and Q&A to help you integrate the material with your own work, while the self-study materials include recorded lectures, handouts and reference materials, multiple-choice quizzes to reinforce important concepts, prompts for reflection and integration, and complementary reading.
No scientific background is required. A certificate of completion is provided once you have finished all the required materials.
